Osteopathic Care

Structural & Subtle Techniques, Guidance and Advice

About Me
Hi !
I'm originally from the UK and did my initial Osteopathic training there, at the British School of Osteopathy in London. I've been living and working in Hamilton now for 20 years.

Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a very broad field, and has many modes of treatment. From the more physical structural approach, to the extraordinarily subtle approach of Bio-Dynamic Osteopathy, I use the techniques I feel appropriate at the time for the patient. This may vary from patient to patient, and from visit to visit. And of course always through discussion with the patient

WHAT DO OSTEOPATHS DO ?

The essence of Osteopathy is that the body should, given the right circumstances, be able to repair, reset and recharge it's self after what ever affliction has caused things to be 'out of whack' All osteopaths try to do, is to put the body back in the best 'position' possible, in order for the body to take care of it's self. This may involve work to directly or indirectly affect the function of the muscles, joints, neurological structures, and connective tissue more generally. N.B It is important to understand that an Osteopath's first duty is to work out whether they should be the one treating you. This is where diagnosis comes in. Some conditions may present and an apparent joint or muscle issue, but are actually something else, more appropriately pursued by a different discipline, be it Medical Doctor or other. In which case, the osteopath will refer you on.

WHAT DO OSTEOPATHS TREAT ?

Joint Pain Neck Pain Back Pain Head Aches Period Pain Stiffness Nausea Muscle Pain Sports injuries Repetitive strain injuries (RSI) and many other things....

WHAT TO EXPECT ON A FIRST VISIT

The first thing I do is to take a Case History, which involves questions related directly to the ailment you're coming to see me for, and then a much more detailed series of questions about your general health and wellbeing that will touch on areas apparently unrelated to the reason you're here. This is a screening process, and is an obligatory duty for any primary health care provider. After this we'll begin an examination process that will vary according to the problem at hand. The ideal is for you to be dressed down to your underwear, but this is negotiable if you are not comfortable with that. Once I have reached an initial diagnosis, and I feel that I might be able to help, I will talk you through what I have found, and what I intend to do. The treatment will vary according to what's going going on, but will possibly involve muscle massage and stretching, joint articulation, joint manipulation (clicks) and/or more subtle gentle techniques. The session will likely end with a summary of what's been going on and possibly some advice in terms of self management etc.
